Vision of Loveliness

Heather and David have the kind of life I always dreamed of. They live in Downtown Cincinnati in an apartment that overlooks the hustle & bustle of the city. They shop at Findley Market on Saturdays and support all the local “culture” from marathons to music festivals.

I have always wanted to capture their life (if not for them, then for me)! The gourmet food, the wine, the jazz and sights of living downtown are all common evenings for Heather and David.

They came to me to photograph them in the wedding attire. It was after their honeymoon and was a final farewell to the stress of planning the affair. Heather wore her dress and David his suit and came to my Portrait Studio with a bottle of wine and some glasses. I hope I did their love justice, but ultimately, I look to photograph them in THEIR environment next time.

My first Vision

Welcome to Visions

I have been taking photographs since I was 13; however, I wouldn't say that I had a vision back then. When I was younger, I used photography as a means of recording my world.

As I have matured, so has my art. I found my vision...

Vision is much more than an inspiration, it is what drives someone through the creative process. It can come from unlikely sources and doesn't have to last long. Sometimes I see an image in my sleep and am driven to recreate it. Sometimes I see something that reminds me of the perfect shot. Other times, the beauty of a subject strikes me and I am compelled to make everyone see exactly what I see, my vision.

A few years ago, I was leaving an amusement park around sundown with my husband and 2 small kids. I saw a vendor with these obnoxious glowing swirling globes. He was just setting up and had to get them all glowing and swirling in order to draw attention. I was drawn to them right away. Individually, they are a special kind of torture for parents (especially when trying to drive home after a long day with 2 small kids). But collectively they were the most beautiful thing to me, almost cosmic.

I broke away from my family to follow the lights (it didn't feel as cliche' as it reads now). I only took a couple of shots but it was the first time in my hobby that I had vision. I saw these globes and knew in an instant exactly what I wanted to tell the world about them.

After going home that night and looking at my images from the day, I was moved (and still am) by this shot. This is the image I put into a photo contest in March 2006 that started it all. After winning the photo contest, I won a book about the world of Stock Photography. By all accounts, this image was my first real vision.
